Now for my plead. In years past I have never thought about this much, but having friends with kids who have severe food allergies my eyes have been opened. Trick or Treating is a scary experience for those families, never knowing if a candy bar with peanuts (or trace peanuts) will be dropped into the bucket. Never knowing if someone was eating something with peanuts on it and handed it to their child (peanut oil is VERY contaminating BTW). Or tree nuts. Or wheat. Or dairy. Think about it. These kids can't eat their Halloween candy. Their parents carry an epi-pen with them "just in case" the most awful happens. It's a way of life.

If you could, think about having a separate bowl with "safe" candy or treats for the kids. Things like stickers, pencils, erasers, silly rings, or jelly beans, fruit snacks, lollipops, etc. Check the labels and mostly avoid peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, or dairy. :) If you can't do this, then possibly just tell the parents "Hey this candy contains peanuts, is that okay?" The parents might have a 2nd bag for those candies.

*stepping off my soapbox now*

Carla - We are a peanut-free house. We hand out juice boxes and a choice of either individual-sized popcorn bags or a non-edible treat like a pencil. Too many peanut allergies out there!!!

We always give stuff from oriental trading.com and today I am going to walmart for the leftover halloween bags of snakes, teeth, etc that are on sale--for next year.

We've been on the feingold diet (adhddiet.com) for 8 years now. no artificials in the diet. JT also can't have corn syrup, so almost all halloween candy is out. We manage each year with candy trades, giving the candy to someone else, etc.

Hey Carla...we don't hand out anything! I know. Poor sports, but we are gone out with the kids most of the evening.

You are my 1st prize winner for the pony tail wrap giveaway. Please contact me and let me know which hairwrap you would like as well as your snailmail address and I'll get it out to you as soon as possible. Thanks!
