Driving on one of the 4 trips back and forth from Hilton Head.
"Want fish."
"This movie? The Fish movie?"
"Yeah. FISH!"
*inserts Finding Nemo*
"Maaa-ooom! MOM!"
"What Katie?"
"Gook! FISH!"
"Yes, Katie there are fish in the movie."
*literally less than 5 seconds*
"MOM! GOOK!!!! Fish!"...."FISH! MOM FISH!"
*she continues in similar manner until...*
"Yes, Katie there are fish in the movie."
*another...oh maybe 10 seconds.*
"MOM! FISH! GOOK! FISH!"
"yes Katie lots of fish in the movie Finding Nemo."
she stays quiet, perhaps sensing our exasperation over her extreme excitedness?
*Nemo swims out to the boat, Marlin is yelling at him.*
"UH OH. Fish." *Katie baby babble rather emphatically sounding like she's telling Nemo to listen to his dad.* "Fish. UH OH. MOM. Uh oh."
"Yes Katie, Nemo got taken by the diver. He did not listen to his Dad did he?"
"Nope."
*Dory and Marlin run into sharks."
"Oooooh." *more babble, this time it's rather apparent she's telling the sharks off.* "Uh OH! MOM!"
"The fish will be okay Katie."
*Dory sings her "Just Keep Swimming" song....you hear a little bit of humming from Katie's seat.*
"UH OH."
*blessed quiet for a few minutes...really must have been drawn into the movie for a good little bit...then you know the part where Dory and Marlin ask for directions from the school of fish?*
"FISH!!!!! FISH!!!!! MOM, FISH!"
"Oh yes Katie that is a lot of fish isn't it?"
"Yeah. Fish."
All is quiet again, then Dory starts speaking whale.
"aaah....oooooh....fffffff-iiiiiiiiiissssh!" Yes, she started speaking "whale" and did an entire conversation in baby babble mixed with English words in whale-speak. I think Dh was laughing so hard he was crying.
All was quiet for a few more minutes, then the movie starts saying "mine! mine! mine!" You know that part? OH YES SHE DID!
"MINE! MINE! MINE!"
I started laughing and crying as well.
"MOM! Gook! Fish."
thankfully, I was able to say, "Yes Katie, that IS a good fish movie isn't it?"
"Yeah. Good."

Wan coca-cola!
We've been working on simple phrases with Katie so she can tell us things. Phrases such as "Want milk." We've also been trying to get her to say "milk" or "juice." Weeks of trying this, and she gives us this look like we are crazy or something.
So, one day, while out looking at houses or something, I went into a gas station to get us all some drinks. Samuel called up to me, "I want Coca-cola!" This was the first time he's called up that particular phrase. Katie immediately piped up, "Wan Coca-cola!"
Yes, we all started laughing. No, she did not get it. Nor has she. However, we now hear "wan coca-cola" a lot. She even performs for other people. We try to get her to say "milk" or "juice" and she shakes her head no. She wants to say "coca-cola."

Katie-Bug and the Boys
Because I don't want to forget...
*Katie sings...LOUDLY..."Daaaa daaaaa...dadadadada....daaaaaaaaa" We call it the Daddy Song.
*When I went into her room this evening because she was making noises, I found her bent over with her head in the corner of her crib and her feet inching closer to her head. It was like she was trying to stand on her head. I laughed and scared her to death.
*This morning, laying in bed with me, she smiled big and patted me on the chest and said "My Momma." yes, I melted. Into a huge puddle of goo. It wasn't pretty. ;)
*Samuel and Katie will play with each other in the van. They blow raspberries back and forth. LOUDLY. The spittle flies. Doesn't that make you want to ride with us?
*The boys love to announce the obvious. "Mom, Katie's crying again." In the van.
*Samuel popped the bottom of the baby gate at the top of our stairs out and announced, "It's like a doggy door! I can just crawl through." He's my "baby gate jumping" challenged child. Poor thing just can't get over them.
*Katie was not wanting to go to bed (what else is new), and we did the signs for eat and drink asking if she wanted food or a bottle. She laughingly tilted her face up and did a combined sign. Guess she wanted both.
*Katie was given money by my Great Aunt for Christmas. We took her to Tar-jay to spend it. She first fell in love with some Care Bear figures. Then we found Princess Tiaras. Then Princess Wands. Then a Princess tea set. Then a Princess Cell phone. The Cell Phone was "it" until we went down the baby doll aisle. She loved the little dolls that are motion activated and cry and move their heads. I held firm to those big eyes (not to mention those dolls kind of creeped me out). Then the next aisle, Katie got all excited. She saw a ball. A pink ball with Princesses on it. She threw that cell phone into the back of the cart and kicked her feet, squealed, and clapped her hands. She wanted that ball. Since it was actually in the "money budget" she had, she got her ball! :) I avoided that creepy moving doll.
*The boys gathered up all their money, and bought a new Wii game. It's a Beijing 2008 olympics one. Pretty cool.
*Getting the kids to bed is more interesting now. Samuel has a chapter book he's being read to, Katie gets a bottle, snuggle/cuddle, music and put to bed...again and again and again...JM reads while Samuel is being read to, then he and Dad "bond" over a television show. We're raising a Trekkie you'll be happy to know. Ensuring future geekdom for our eldest. Like he had a chance!
*In the van today, listening to Raffi because apparently adult songs are out of my life for the next 5 years or so, I was singing along..."...there were 5 little speckled frogs, sitting on a *something* log, eating the most delicious bugs...YUM! YUM!..." when I hear a cute little voice sing "YUMMMMM YUMMMMMMMMMM!" at the top of her lungs.
*Later on the Raffi CD, I was singing along to the Old MacDonald has a BAND song, and that same little LOUD voice sings "EEEEEEE I, EEEEEEEE I, EEEEEEEEEEEEEE, OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"
*Samuel, not to be outdone, while walking through Lowes, starts singing our State Song. He's got the first verse down (well sort of), then he hums the tune. Excitedly he exclaims, "MOM! I just hummed the 2nd verse to the state song!" Yeah, ummm, doesn't that mean he hummed the first verse and since the 2nd verse would sound just like the first...LOL I did praise him.
*Looking at cabinet door hardware (Oh honey, I want to go to Lowes and look at that soon with you), Samuel picked out the BLUE straight handles for his room. They are $8 (not sure if that is apiece or a set of 3). I did find some knobs for Katie's drawers that need replaced...47cents each. They're pink. Katie agreed that they would look good. ;) She clapped for them.

He says the cutest things!
I sent Samuel to the bathroom to clean his face, wash his hands, and brush his teeth. After a good long while of hearing the water running, Samuel calls out "Moooom! Where's my....where's my....where's my tooth soap?"
awwww....Tooth SOAP! I love it.
I had to go help him find his tooth paste, and I told him "Here's your tooth paste, be sure to brush your teeth really well." I'll check of course.

and then you wiggle dem.
Samuel and I were having a discussion after Karate class today. It was about what to do when someone was crying. See, during his Karate class 2 of the little kids cried. He stared at both of them (with this look on his face that said to me "what in the world are they crying about this is fun?"). So, Samuel and I were talking, okay I was telling him that he should not look at kids crying in his Karate class because ignoring them would help them to stop.
Which led us to when it IS appropriate to help someone who is crying. I told him outside of Karate it is okay to comfort someone who is crying, like Mommy, or Daddy, or JM. He said, "Or one of my friends?" Yes, or one of your friends.
I then asked him what can you do to comfort them?
S (very excited): I give them a HUG...
Me (yes I interrupted him because I thought he was done): Yes, you give them a hug.
S: then I wiggle dem!
Me: Huh?
S: I wiggle dem.
Me: Can you show me?
S: Yeah, but you are too big.
So, I got down on his level, he put his arms around me, squeezed for a hug...then "wiggled me" back and forth!
